Professor Yu has expertise in financial reporting, voluntary disclosure, and corporate governance. Her current research interests focus on linguistic properties of corporate disclosure, financial statement fraud detection, and interlocking networks. Professor Yu’s work has been presented at leading business schools and various national and international conferences.

Professor Yu has taught a variety of financial accounting and reporting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Before joining the University of Virginia, Professor Yu served as a faculty member at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

COMM 5130: Advanced Financial Accounting
Credits: 3
This course provides an understanding of financial reporting issues related to business combinations, inter-corporate investments, consolidated financial statements, corporate restructurings, and international transactions and operations. Understanding the economic substance and impact these issues have upon the financial statements are important for professional accountants and financial analysts. Prerequisite: COMM 3110.
GCOM 7371: Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation
Credits: 3
This course introduces students to concepts, tools of financial statement analysis and practical valuation issues and will equip students with skills in using financial statement data for business valuation. Students will take the perspectives of equity analysts, creditors, investment bankers, managers and auditors when applying the course skills in various decision-making contexts. Restricted to MS in Accounting Students.
