Donald Dudley, MD, achieved his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas and his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Utah. After this, he was on the University of Utah faculty until 1999 and then returned to San Antonio and joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In 2014, he became the division director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Virginia.      

He has a particular interest in helping women and families who have suffered adverse pregnancy outcomes and pregnancy loss, specifically women who have problems with repeat miscarriage, prior stillbirth and previous preterm birth. He also is interested in caring for women with medical problems such as lupus, hypertension and diabetes. His research interests focus on the causes and management of adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as preterm birth and preeclampsia, with a specific focus on immunologic abnormalities that might contribute to these outcomes.
